Alright…another year older…still no new SMC album. Sigh…but we did play some new stuff from the forthcoming release at this years gig.
This was a really awesome show. Sadly, my openers Beautiful Disturbance from Waco had to cancel due to drummer issues but our friends Echo Temple stepped up to the plate and filled in for us. This is a rather interesting development because I am a big fan of the bassist from Beautiful Disturbance. I am also really digging the new bassist for Echo Temple, Thomas. He is also badass so that means that I did not have to sacrifice a low-end badass for the first slot.
Both of the bands to whom I swear allegiance played back to back. Well of Souls and Six Minute Century. This was not only my first show with Well of Souls but also the first show the band has played in a looooooooooooooong time. I had been questioned about my decision to play with a Doom band after word of my recruitment leaked out. This was probably due to my reputation as a speed demon. I am glad to say that after this show there will probably be no further questions about my choice. Chris Kotlarz from Echo Temple filled in on drums for us and he was freaking great. He did the whole thing on only two rehersals, and the really moist thing is that he only needed one. Thanks Chris.
Six Minute Century ripped. It was one of the best shows we have played in ages. Mikey just kicks so much ass on those drums and Chuck has been sounding better than ever since his surgery. As for The Frenchman…well…he always shreds so no surprise there.
As for me…I doubt I will book both these bands on the same night again. It was a bit much for me, though I did pull it off. I was very pleased that my first run of the albums bass solo Czardas went over great. In fact, Lori filmed it on her cellphone and so I will end this post with it. See you next year.
