I was fortunate enough to have “Morphogenesis” from this album be the first thing that I ever heard from Scar Symmetry…a band that quickly became one of my favorites. It is unfortunate that this was the last album to feature vocalist Christian Älvestam, because he is one of the main factors in what makes this band badass.
This album features the same kind of format for songs that make me like Soilwork. Christian growls an amazing cookie monster half of the time and then busts out this wonderful clean vocal with great melodies the other half. Add to the mix some really well written and infectious guitar riffs and compositions as well as above average performances by the musicians and you have something really special.
Though there is not a bad Scar Symmetry album out so far (even the new one with the new singers is not a bad record), this one is still the masterpiece. If you like Soilwork and have never listened to this band than you should absolutely check it out right away. If you like metal in general and don’t mind some clean vocal and cookie monster mixed together than, again, I recommend this highly.
The tracks I kept on my player are as follows, though Morphogenesis is my favorite Scar Symmetry song by far:
Artificial Sun Projection
Ghost Prototype 1 & 2
Prism And Gate
The Missing Coordinates
The Three Dimensional Shadow
