I have been slowly going through my gigantic music collection lately looking for the permanent tracks for my mp3 player. I thought I might as well share this journey with my fellow music lovers.
So…one of the albums I was jamming today was Waterfall Cities by the Ozric Tentacles.
This band has been around FOREVER and has a multitude of recordings. They are a purely instrumental group that plays fusion-like jams. I like WC quite a bit more than many of the groups other recordings, and that is saying a lot because I really like this band. The bass playing is extra moist.
There is an asian flare on quite a bit of this album but it comes out the most on “Coily” and “Ch’ai.”
And while I usually like my fusion to be of the more upbeat variety, I could not help but really dig the slow groove of “Xingu.”
Those of you looking for some really interesting, well played, and smartly composed instrumental goodness should check this record out.
