Greetings boys and girls… some of you might be wondering what is new in the Dr. Froth world of advanced and evolved bass playing.
The answer is: A FUCKLOAD.
Yep…that about sums it up. I am now sitting pretty close to the 90 day mark since picking up my NS/STICK and so I am now feeling comfortable moving around on it. In truth, however, I feel that it will probably be a year before I am really, really shredding on it in the ways that I would like.
I have played it with Six Minute Century on two shows now, though this weekends gig for my birthday will be the best one. In the last two performances there were still a couple of incidents of me missing the target string (oops…how embarassing…hahaha) but this is no longer happening. Hooray.
Last night I hooked up the melody portion of the stick through Don LaFon(dilmibalz)’s amp while leaving the bass portion running through my rig. It was AMAZING. This feature has worked out much better than I had even dreamed about when I first learned that this kind of shenanigans were possible. How rare, and nice, to have fantasy-land expectations exceeded in the real world. This shit needs to happen more often.
So what have I been practicing? I got a ton of piano sheet music since it is feasible to read it on the stick. I have been working on Bach’s invention number 4 in Dmin, Jesu Joy of Man’s desiring (with distortion and Wah Wah pedal…hahahaha. Maybe I should call it Jesu Wah of Man’s desiring), Moonlight Sonata, and more.
I have been thinking of busting out the Jazz Realbook too…can’t think of a reason not too.
Don Lafon hopes to have a good video of me doing the new bi-amped solo from the upcoming gig because he wants to put it on the internet and promote this unique style that I am chasing. This is a good sign that I am on the right track to defining myself. Sweet.
Here is a cool pic of me and the stick that Nicolette took from the last SMC show.
