So last night I find myself at “The White Swan” in Houston and had my good sensibilities assaulted over and over again…ugh.
The second band, known as “Flesh Eater”, spent at least ten minutes trying to tune prior to starting their set. Did they turn off the amps and use a fifteen dollar tuner from guitar center…oh fuck no…that would be unprofessional. Did they use harmonics….nope ….they just all sat with the amps at show volume strumming the same damn open string together and completely and utterly failing to tune to themselves. So what did they do…They gave up. That’s right…they just played anyway even though they were out of tune. Christ…the last time I saw something like that was the talent show in Jr. High…come to think of it I think Flesh Eater shared a similar amount of talent with the kids I saw at Jr. High.
In truth I wanted to like them..and the by the fourth song they were in tune and it was actually cool…but as a whole these guys needed alot of work on professionalism and showmanship. Hell, the guitar player kept apologizing saying it was the new strings on his guitar. I almost expected him to yank out a note from his mother saying it was O.K. that little Johnny’s guitar was out of tune because he had a mental condition or something….sigh.
Thankfully, Warbeast was quite good.
